Apple TV owners woke up to a surprise this morning: Hulu Plus is now built in. The streaming TV and movie service shows up as an additional app in the Apple TV interface, and could be the first of many new services to appear on Apple’s “hobby.”
Now that summer is here and most TV shows have wrapped for the year, it would seem that the season is upon us to go into that big beautiful place known as “outside” — or at least stroll through it long enough to get to a movie theater. But guess what? This is the internet age! You can stay inside all year long and always have something to look at on your boob tube (or laptop, or smartphone). A surging wave of original web programming should keep couch potatoes safely ensconced until fall.
On Tuesday, Google announced something called Search, plus Your World (SPYW). It marked a startling transformation of the company¿s flagship product, Google Search, into an amplifier of social content. Google¿s critics¿as well as some folks generally well intentioned towards Google¿have complained that the social content it amplifies is primarily Google¿s own product, Google+. They have a point.
